Research Scientist, Quantum Algorithms

    Website Cambridge Quantum Computing

Cambridge Quantum Computing (CQC) is a global leader in software and enterprise applications that help its partners, collaborators, and clients to work effortlessly across multiple platforms and solve some of the most intriguing problems in their industry through quantum computing. Our focus is in the areas of quantum chemistry, quantum machine learning, and quantum encryption.

CQC has a strong and unique scientific grounding in terms of its core team with over 80 scientists, of which over 60 are Ph.D. holders. We are in the process of expanding our operations significantly across our offices in Cambridge (U.K.), Oxford, London, Washington, DC, and Tokyo.

We are looking for researchers to work in the role of research scientist with a focus on quantum algorithms. In this role, you’ll work on the development of new sampling, optimisation and estimation algorithms that achieve quantum advantage in the NISQ era, and beyond. You’ll work closely with our software engineers in order to efficiently implement these software solutions into our quantum algorithms framework, and a key element of the role will be ensuring that performance is maximised when the algorithms are run on real quantum hardware.

Based in the Cambridge office, you will be working in a highly dynamic, research-focused group with scientific direction from leading researchers. With the freedom to think independently and creatively this is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to build their career.

We want to hear from you if you have the below experience and skillset!

Researching quantum algorithms to run on real and simulated quantum computers
Collaborating with software engineers in the team to implement new algorithms
Keeping up to date with the literature of the field
    Producing analysis and reports
Writing articles and publishing in leading scientific journals

    Key Requirements:

    The successful candidate will have:
A Ph.D. degree or equivalent – or will have submitted their thesis prior to taking up the position – in Maths, Computer Science, Theoretical Physics or a related discipline
A strong research record showing evidence of their ability to understand the fundamentals of quantum algorithms and contribute new ideas

    Desirable Skills:

A basic knowledge of statistics — in particular a good essential understanding of classical sampling, optimisation and estimation algorithms
    Knowledge of Python

What is in it for you?

Working alongside a highly talented team, with leading names in the quantum computing industry. We offer a highly competitive package including equity participation, 28 day’s paid annual leave, a workplace pension and a positive approach to flexible working.
