Trapped ION Physicist- Quantum Computing

STFC (part of UK Research and Innovation) are seeking a Trapped ION Physicist to support the delivery of the National Quantum Computing Centers (NQCC) core objectives.
You will work alongside developers in the controls system engineering team at the NQCC, supporting the definition of high performance physical and logical trapped ion qubit design and architectures. Your skills in trapped ion quantum computing will be rapidly deployed and utilized to meet NQCC’s goals, which will enable the centre to deliver scalable quantum computing capabilities against our technology roadmap and building a quantum ready UK economy
You will work closely with colleagues across the NQCC to implement the architecture and deploy services, whilst also promoting best practice software development. You will define work plans for specific NQCC projects and make site visits for commercial and academic partners.
Not only is this an exciting role at the forefront of science and technology, but you will also gain excellent experience of large-scale systems integration across a variety of collaborations in the quantum computing eco-system.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
· A PHD level or equivalent relevant experience in a physics, computer science or engineering related field
· Experience in at least one of ‘trapped ion chip modelling & design’ or ‘high fidelity ion trap microwave-based gates’
· Technical knowledge un Quantum Computing
· Strong communication skills with the ability to influence internal staff and end users
· Significant knowledge of the implementation of high performance or quantum computing
· Computer literate with skills and experience in the use of MS Office
